What Federal Benefits are Available?

  • The Advanced Canada Works Benefit provides crucial financial relief for eligible low-income workers and their families across the country.

  • The Canada Carbon Rebate (formerly known as the Climate action incentive payment (CAIP)) is a tax-free amount to help eligible individuals and families offset the cost of the federal pollution pricing. It consists of a basic amount and a supplement for residents of small and rural communities.

  • The Canada Child Benefit is administered by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA). It is a tax-free monthly payment made to eligible families to help with the cost of raising children under 18 years of age.

  • There are three important components of retirement income in Canada:

    1. Old Age Security (OAS): Available to people of retirement age.

    2. Guaranteed Income Supplement (GIS): A monthly payment for low-income Old Age Security pensioners.

    3. Canada Pension Plan (CPP): Available to those who worked and contributed to the pension plan. CPP and OAS benefits are taxable, while GIS benefits are not
